Family of sites, dedicated to making life – and shopping – easier.
Quidsi is a multi-brand retailer, now owned by Amazon, with popular brands Soap.com, Diapers.com, Beautybar.com, Wag.com, and Yoyo.com. Prior to its acquisition from Amazon, Quidsi, one of Inc’s 500 fastest growing companies at the time, faced several challenges. It’s first challenge was creating a seamless shopping experience across both mobile and web for the user, as nearly 40% of all traffic was coming from mobile phones. The second challenge was user experience focused as each brand was different and required unique functionality. The end goal for Quidsi was to delight customers with a better shopping experience while also increasing both traffic and revenue on their mobile applications.
Multi-channel redesign providing seamless shopping experience for busy people.
Dialexa’s design team worked with Quidsi’s Vice President of Experience and lead mobile engineer to revolutionize shopping across all platforms; creating an experience for users that allowed them to be not only efficient but to find products that applied to them and their families lives. The engagement took approximately two years as the team rolled out several applications, each requiring unique functionality and new challenges.
Some highlights of solutions that were implemented are:
- Created native mobile applications which successfully display results from millions of products and are optimized for screen sizes of phones and tablets.
- Offline ordering so when a customer was “offline” on their mobile device, they could complete their order once they regained service. * Designed for usability making the interactions simple and clear to understand by all customers - from less than savvy to very savvy.
- Took an innovative design approach to drive size of orders and increase the cart value.
- Created a mobile experience that could be as immersive as the desktop and tablet experience.
Award winning app helped increase traffic and revenue leading to the acquisition of Quidsi by Amazon.
Within the first month of launching several mobile initiatives for Quidsi, traffic and revenue increased by an additional 10 percent promptly triggering the acquisition by Amazon for $545 million. Dialexa’s design team continued to work with Amazon/Quidsi long-term until Quidsi brought design and development in-house.
Amazon continues to dominate the ever-competitive world of e-commerce and online retail. Over the past several years it has become apparent that part of Amazon’s incredibly successful strategy is to acquire and build online properties addressing specific verticals of commerce rather than having a singular focus on a “we have it all” platform. This is evidenced by their acquisitions into the billions of dollars for Zappos.com and the Quidsi, Inc. brands.
Moreover, the Dialexa design team won a Communicator Award for Soap.com mobile application. The Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program recognizing big ideas in marketing and communications.
